Place Ampère

The Place Ampère is a pedestrian square located in the Ainay square, in the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon. It is nearly the middle of the rue Victor Hugo and is served by the metro station Ampère - Victor Hugo.

It was named uppon André-Marie AMPERE who played a big role in evolution of electricity.

 

French scientist from Lyon

 Born in Lyon in 1775, André-Marie AMPERE spent his childhood and adolescence in Poleymieux-au-Mont-d'Or (around 20 km north of Lyon).

The HOUSE OF AMPÈRE which has just received the "Maisons des Illustres" label evokes the life of the scientist and presents his work and also serve as MUSEUM OF ELECTRICITY. If you are interested about sience and history, then visiting the Museum is a must.
